Notice of Consultation on the Proposal to Change the Age Range of Westcott Primary School

Westcott Primary School, as part of the HCAT Hull Collaborative Academy Trust (the "Academy Trust"), is consulting on a proposal to change the age range of the school from 5-11 to 2-11 years old. The purpose of this consultation is to provide information relating to the proposal to introduce nursery provision at Westcott Primary School (the "Proposal") and to seek the views of parents, carers, staff, and the wider community.

Objectives of the proposal

Westcott Primary School currently provides education from Foundation Stage 2 (Reception) to Year 6. At present, we do not have any nursery provision, and we believe that introducing nursery places will significantly enhance our early years offer.

The Academy Trust is committed to ensuring that children in our community have access to high-quality early education from the age of 2, providing them with a strong foundation for future learning.

The expansion will support:

  • Providing children with the best possible start in their education journey.
  • Raising educational standards on entry into Reception.
  • Establishing strong relationships with parents and carers from an earlier stage.
  • Developing key speech and language skills from an earlier age.
  • Supporting the development of executive function skills, which are crucial for children’s self-regulation, problem-solving, and learning readiness.
  • Addressing the local authority’s identified need for additional nursery places within the community.

Additional Information

Westcott Primary School currently does not have any nursery provision. The proposed change in age range will introduce a high-quality nursery, which will operate for 185 days per year (excluding non-contact days when the school is closed).

Details regarding session timings, funding options, and additional childcare provision will be confirmed as part of the planning process and shared with parents and carers in due course.

Have your say

This consultation is an opportunity for parents, carers, staff, the local community, and other stakeholders to express their views, respond to the proposal, and ask questions regarding the expansion of Westcott Primary School’s age range.

The consultation period will run from Thursday 20th March 2025 for 4 weeks.  You can share your views by writing to or emailing the Academy Trust at admin.westcott@hcat.org.uk marked for the attention of the Headteacher. You can state whether you support the proposal or not by writing or emailing to the Academy Trust; please send your response to Wescott Primary School, marked for the attention of the Head teacher, Mrs Waldron.

All feedback will be considered after the consultation period ends on Tuesday 22nd April 2025.

If the Academy Trust decides to proceed with the Proposal, an application will be submitted to the Department for Education to request approval for the change in age range, with an intended start date of Monday 1st September 2025

We appreciate your time and input in this consultation process and will inform you of the outcome at the end of the consultation period.
