Covid : parent information

3 symptoms of Covid-19

  • high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
  • new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
  • loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you’ve noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal

People should self-isolate if they:

  • have symptoms or have had a positive test result
  • live with someone who has symptoms or has tested positive and are a household contact
  • are a close contact of someone who has Covid-19 (this includes someone from their support bubble/childcare bubble)

Self-isolation should take place for a period of 10 days.

Close contact means:

  • anyone who lives in the same household as someone with coronavirus symptoms or who has tested positive for coronavirus
  • anyone who has had any of the following types of contact with someone who has tested positive
    • face-to-face contact, including having a face-to-face conversation within 1 metre
    • been within 1 metre for 1 minute or longer without face to face contact
    • travelled in the same vehicle or plane

It is vital that you inform the school of a positive test result as soon as possible so that the necessary steps can be taken to identify ‘close contacts’.
